On Repeat: Slow Club

leave a comment »

With their characteristic twee boy/girl vocals and jaunty indie pop, it is hard to believe that Sheffield’s Slow Club have released an album a world away from their 2009 debut ‘Yeah, So’.

The undeniable stand-out track on their second long-player ’Paradise’ is ‘You, Earth or Ash’. Almost stark in its arrangement and heavily relying on the honeyed tones of singer Rebecca Taylor, it begins like a tiny, flickering spark and turns into a great roaring fire before finally petering out to a close.

And if that isn’t upbeat enough for you, try ‘Where I’m Waking’ from the same album.
